Orange Chocolate Saucepan Brownies

One of my favorite flavor combinations made its debut in the form of this recipe I adapted from my favorite brownie recipe from Hershey’s.
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 teas. baking soda
  • 1/4 salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 table. orange flavored extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 table. water
  • 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips , divided
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1/2 teas. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour a 9 in baking pan (use orange olive oil to grease). In a bowl stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a medium heavy saucepan cook stirring constantly with a wooden spoon : the sugar, 3 table. orange olive oil, and water over low heat until it boils. Remove from the heat and beat in half of the chips until they are melted. With a wire whisk mix in the eggs. When smooth add the vanilla and 2 table. orange olive oil.

Using a wooden spoon stir in the flour mixture in 2 batches. Once the flour is incorporated stir in the remaining chips and nuts. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 25-30 minutes until the brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Cool completely before cutting. Dust with powdered sugar.
